Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1" LCD For About $400
[Hand Coding » Refenestration Daily.] Ive been keeping tabs on Dells 2005FPW 20.1" LCD ever since I first heard about it on Engadget. Other than price, the big problem with most LCDs ” as I see it ” is that most of them have a fairly paltry resolution. I mean, sure, a 19" LCD may sound nice but what good is it if it can only handle 1280Ã1024? But, thats where the 2005FPW comes in. Its 20.1 inches and has a resolution of 1680 x 1050 (with a 12ms response time, if youre curious). I also found a comparison between this monitor and Apples 20" Cinema Display at AnandTech. Apparently, they use the same LG.Philips panel and, unsurprisingly, they perform about the same. Granted, Apples display may have the edge on aesthetics but AnandTech concludes by saying that the “UltraSharp 2005FPW is the display that we have been waiting for”. This was sounding pretty good so far, but then I found an item on DealNews which further sweetened the deal ” you can get the 2005FPW for about $400 + tax through a...

[coresite.org: bens writings] So whats your deal, bubba?: Even personal friends had expressed disappointment in some scenarios. Don’t get me started on the costs, as they are also quite prohibitive (nearly twice the cost of the Dell!) Sure it looks good, sure it’s sexy as hell, but I couldn’t take the risk with public concerns over build quality, screen quality, and working with Apple if you need a replacement. The other vendors are fine, but no one has a 23″+ widescreen that was worth a damn (so I read from many reviews), so that left me with Dell’s new 24″ beast.
[Sudster] Apple vs. Dell (Huge Post): The internals of the Apple Cinema Display, doesn't have anything interesting. Apple display relies entirely in digital signals via digital inputs, so input controls are fairly limited. In this image, you can see the 2005FPW internals. Dell removed the back panels from the 2001FP model.
[svenrox why the web rox] Get An Apple Cinema Display for $450 Less!: Now if you’ve got to have that silver look match your G5 (sitting on the floor) and you have tons of money to burn, then by all means waste it at the Apple Store but if you’d like to have TWO of these monitors and still have some change left over, then get the Dell. Just seems a bit smarter in my book, that’s all. (Makes you wonder about Apple’s pricing on other items, doesn’t it?)

[Dynatech] 3/26/05 SUPERCHARGED: The Mozilla foundation is touting its security advantage of Firefox over IE. A advantage Mozilla intends to keep as the popularity of the browser increases. Part of the reason for Firefox's better security is the browser is not part of the operating system as it is with IE, and the lack of support for Active X plug-ins. As time passes we shall see if Firefox will remain more secure then IE, or if Microsoft can turn things around.

[Anandtech.com] AnandTech: The 20" LCD Shootout: Dell versus Apple: In fact, the 20" M9177LL Cinema displays are so unique that Apple really only has a single Tier 1, 20" wide screen competitor - Dell's UltraSharp 2005FPW. The move to wide screen computer displays has been a slow one. Unlike digital TVs, which are mandated to be HD capable by a certain year based on their screen size, regulatory committees do not enforce similar directives on PC displays - and rightfully so.

[Anandtech.com] AnandTech: Dell UltraSharp 1905FP: Setting the Bar for New 19" LCDs: The Dell UltraSharp 1905FP and its larger brother, the 2005FPW, are the eventual replacements for the 1901FP and the much acclaimed 2001FP displays. The Dell 2001FP has been one of the most fantastic displays that we ever had the pleasure of working with; it sports excellent resolution, great user interface, additional inputs and an unbeatable price. However, like all things in the computer industry, a lot can change in a year. Even though the 2001FP was an exceptionally bright monitor for a flat panel capable of 1600x1200 resolutions, newer Samsung, LG.Philips LCD and AUO panels all sport better specifications and the OEMs have started to implement these newer panels.
