[Waking in the Springtime] Tuesday: You get there and there's a UPS to set up, an old computer with files you're going to have to transfer. Setting up the UPS means you have to move the carefully knotted up framework of rats-nest-style cables, which means it's probably best if you just un-knot all the frickin' cables and that will take care of that by coiling all of the loose cords like I learned working for a video production company. Poor woman has a tiny office, and someone has decided to park two giganto monitors in her office for no good reason. So, I call up to get permission to bring those back to the help desk.

My New Monitor's ...: Don't feel bad about ordering new toys - it's not like your employer can't afford it, and you should consider it a perk of having been there for such a long time. I've only worked for my current employer for a couple of years, and so far I've persuaded them to buy me about £80,000 of neat gear. It wasn't *essential*, but I figure it saves about 2 hours a day through increased productivity and less hanging about waiting for stuff to happen so it'll pay for itself after a while, plus it keeps me happy, and a happy worker is a busy worker. The reason: If you read the review it says that the Dell "2005FPW had numerous discoloration problems and generally poor image quality". I assume this is how Dell got their price to be lower; they cut corners!

My Dell Inspiron 8500 Screen Is Dead :(: Needless to say it is out of warrenty and the Inspiron 8500 is not sold in Sri Lanka (nor SE Asia apparently). It is currently sitting at the local Dell dealers, Softlogic's, workshop, which fortunately is only a two minute walk from our apartnment. I've got to go back at 14:00 and get the verdict on it. They were talking about a 4 week wait if a new LCD screen was required!
