Fraser Speirshttp://www.livejournal.com/users/fraserspeirs [Fraser Speirs] The 20" Cinema Display is nice, but it's really not £500 nice and it's not "two Acer 19" screens" nice. The only thing I'd like from that Acer monitor is that it had a DVI connector.

http://rg3.blogspot.com [reFlection] Well a lot has gone on in the past couple days, I had a phone interview with Praxair for an analyst position, and I have to go in for a second interview sometime next week. I am excited and can't wait to get out of this job, because it is so boring, and I am pretty confident that I will get this job.

The plasma pricing precipice

[Archived in Entry, LCD]

[The Blackfriars Blog] Over at the AV Science Forum, there is a bunch of discussion about the possibility of 50-inch Plasma panels for under $3,000 in the coming months. With brand name pricing of 50" plasma panels now more in the $4,000 range, this may herald a real pricing discontinuity for plasma panels, probably in response to the huge volume of production coming online in the LCD world.

A picture of Sharp's new 65-inch LCD

[Archived in Entry, LCD]

[The Blackfriars Blog] The Gadget Blog has a nice picture of the new Sharp Aquos 65-inch flat panel TV. They aren't promising any TV formats above 1080i (so no promises of 1080p yet), but it does sound impressive.

Sharp launching 65-inch LCD TV in August

[Archived in Entry, LCD]

[The Blackfriars Blog] This week seems to be flat panel TV story week. Thanks to Engadget for noticing, CNN has a report saying that Sharp will release a 65-inch LCD panel in August in Japan and throughout the world by the end of the year. The report notes that this is really a shot across the bow of plasma-makers, despite LCD's higher prices currently.

Evidence of the price war in plasma

[Archived in Entry, HDTV]

[The Blackfriars Blog] PC Connection is now offering a 42" HDTV 1024x768 plasma panel for $1399 . Another reputable vendor, Crutchfield has been offering a 37" 1920x1080 HDTV LCD for $1999. Both of these pre-orders for non-big-name products not in stock, but the prices are dramatic new lows for products with those specs.

DoubleSight DS-1900 Dual 19 Inch

[Archived in Entry]

[Krunker] A few days ago, we mentioned the news about CTX’s new double LCD display.. well forget that for a second and lay your eyes on the DoubleSight DS-1900 Dual 19 Inch display. These are two 19 inch displays connected together via a single stand. What’s the verdict? The DS-1900 did very well in our testing and if you are looking for a dual monitor package it is a great choice. The purchase of one is not so much a way to save money as it is a way to make money on time saved. Interesting comments - I’m not sure if you’d really save a whole lot of time by purchasing this dual display as opposed to using two independent 19 inch monitors. However, it does look pretty pimpin when you have two displays connected on a single base on your desk. ...

Live Review: LCD Soundsystem w/M.I.A. At Metro 5/19/05

[Archived in Entry]

[Radio Free Chicago] I think I've reached that point where I've just simply attended too many shows. This was certainly a dance-tastic bill, and both artists did a great job of getting the crowd movin', but I wasn't inspired to do much more than some subtle hipster head-nodding for most of the night. Like many of my record-store workin,' rock critic lovin' brethren, I guess I too have reached that point where I've become "too cool for school" to move my feet to even the most infectious collection of live grooves.

It's here!

[Archived in Entry]

[Neil's World - Not the world you expected] Okay, after this I'll hopefully shut up about the screen, because it arrived this morning (yay for ParcelForce delivering before 10am). It works fine, although I found that you really do have to follow the instructions by turning the computer off first, then turning the monitor on and then the computer on to get it to work - you can't just plug it in and expect it to work. RTFM, as they say. Having a 1280x1024 resolution is so much better than 1024x768 - the machines at the university use it, as does my parents machine at home - but I've had to put up with the latter as my laptop screen doesn't support it (but then it is only 14"). The screen arrived with no dead pixels, which is good. Oh, and it works with my PDA, as well :) . Update: Since I got a rather large birthday money cheque this morning, I've also treated myself to a Belkin wireless keyboard and optical mouse, thus meaning I finally have the luxury of a full-size keyboard. It's USB and both PC and Mac...
